In January 2013, industrial production in Russia decreased by 0.8% compared to January last year

According to the report provided by the Federal State Statistics Service, January 2013 showed negative dynamics of the industrial production index of the Russian Federation both in comparison with December 2012 (decreased by 11.8%) and January 2012 (decreased by 0.8%). If the decline relative to the previous month can be explained by seasonal factors, then the change in the index relative to January last year deserves more attention.

The decline is particularly noticeable in the manufacturing sector (-0.3%) and in the mining sector (-1.2%). The electricity, gas and water production and distribution sector, on the contrary, shows positive dynamics of development: an increase of 1.8%.

Production of non-metallic mineral products, including construction gypsum, decreased by 2.2%. It is characteristic that the general shift of indicators towards negative values occurred mainly in categories not related to the production of basic building materials. The largest lag was shown by the production of glass and glass products (-26.8%), wall stones and concrete blocks (-11.0%), construction lime (-10.2%). The decrease in the gypsum production index is not so significant and coincides with the indicator of the entire industry — 0.8%.
