The production of one ton of gypsum requires almost 4 times less fuel and energy resources than the production of the same amount of cement. All other things being equal, building materials and structures made using gypsum binders differ favorably from materials made using other types of binders. Naturally, it is necessary to expand the range of gypsum products for use in construction (partition panels and blocks, decorative, sound-absorbing and marble-like slabs, dry mixes, plasterboard sheets of various modifications, etc.)

The use of gypsum-based plaster mixes instead of cement-lime ones also reduces fuel consumption for the production of raw materials by 170 kg and cement up to 600 kg for every 100 m2 of plastered surface. Dry gypsum mixes can be used for the installation of self-levelling self-levelling substrates under floors instead of cement screeds. Savings in this case will be up to 2 tons of cement per 100 m2 of the base and up to 240 kg of conventional fuel.

Energy-saving measures should also include the widespread use of drywall sheets with increased fire resistance and moisture-resistant sheets. The former can be widely used in the construction of buildings with wooden frames and attic construction. The second-for the device of partitions in rooms with high relative humidity instead of energy-intensive brick, thereby reducing the mass of buildings. One of the possibilities for a wider use of gypsum binders instead of cement, lime and others is the use of phosphogypsum, waste from chemical production (in the republic, phosphogypsum reserves in the dumps of a chemical plant amount to more than 20 million tons). The expediency of its use is dictated not only by economic, but also by environmental considerations.

The use of phosphogypsum was limited by the fact that it cannot be used without pretreatment. Currently, there are technological solutions for the neutralization of phosphoric acid and fluorine compounds contained in phosphogypsum, which make it possible to obtain gypsum binders of grades G7-G13 with normal setting times.
