British Gypsum for environmental transparency in the industry
The English company British Gypsum has developed seven new environmental Product declarations (EPDs) covering ten products. Such a step should make life easier for builders who use the company's products and face the need to find out their environmental characteristics.
In general, this is within the framework of an approach aimed at increasing the "environmental transparency" of the construction industry and making it as easy as possible to certify the environmental performance of buildings according to the BREEAM, LEED and SKA systems.
Environmental declarations for the products of a British company describe the full life cycle of each product and the features of its interaction with the environment at each stage. The documents comprehensively describe products in terms of raw materials used, manufacturing process, application/installation process, long-term operation, disassembly, disposal and recycling.
Heidi Barnard, representative of British Gypsum: "Because EPDs for our products are based on clearly defined EU norms and regulations, our customers can be sure that they receive reliable indicators, which allows them to make informed decisions during the development or presentation of projects. Currently, our products are distributed only in the UK, and the development of EPD is not only another step towards environmental transparency, but can also contribute to the distribution of British Gypsum products in the European Union."
